Q: How does the Malaysian Student Pass process work for Sri Lankan students?
The Malaysia Student Pass is issued through the Education Malaysia Global Services (EMGS) system and applies to all levels of study including diploma, undergraduate, and postgraduate. Your university submits your application through EMGS on your behalf. Once your Electronic Visa Approval Letter (eVAL) is issued, applicants from countries requiring a visa must apply for a Single Entry Visa (SEV) via the official eVISA portal. The entire process typically takes 6–10 weeks from the point of application.

Q: Can Sri Lankan students work while studying in Malaysia?
Yes. International students holding a valid Malaysian Student Pass are permitted to work up to 20 hours per week during term time and full-time during official university vacation periods. Work is permitted in sectors including restaurants, retail, hotels, supermarkets, and on-campus positions. Students working 32 hours per month may additionally qualify for a student public transport subsidy. Branch campus degrees issued by Monash University Malaysia, the University of Nottingham Malaysia, and the University of Southampton Malaysia are conferred by the parent university; not a separate Malaysian institution. Your degree certificate states the parent university’s name and is globally recognised in the same way as a degree from the home campus. The curriculum, assessment standards, and quality assurance are maintained by the parent institution. This is one of Malaysia’s most compelling propositions for Sri Lankan students.
