Singapore Student Visa for Sri Lankan Students: How to Apply

Planning to study in Singapore? Understanding the Singapore student visa process for Sri Lankan students is an important first step. Learn how to apply for a Student’s Pass, the documents you need, application fees, and key requirements before starting your application.

Singapore Student Visa – Key Facts for Sri Lankan Students:

  • Official name: Student’s Pass, issued by ICA
  • Application fee: S$45 (non-refundable)
  • Issuance fee: S$60
  • Processing: about 2 to 6 weeks
  • IPA letter validity: about 2 months
  • Work limit: 16 hours a week in term, at approved institutions

Is a Singapore Student Visa the Same as a Student’s Pass?

Singapore doesn’t issue a “student visa” as such. Full-time international students get a Student’s Pass from the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA), which covers your stay for the length of your course.

Depending on your nationality, you may also need an entry visa. Your IPA letter states whether this applies, so don’t apply separately.

Choose an Approved Institution in Singapore

You can’t apply on your own. Your institution starts your application in SOLAR+, ICA’s online system, after you accept your offer. Confirm the school is recognised before paying any deposit.

This matters for work rights too: only students at institutions on the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) approved list can work part-time. Private colleges usually aren’t covered.

Documents Required for a Singapore Student Visa

Have these ready: valid passport, offer letter, passport-style photo, academic transcripts and certificates, and proof of English ability where your school asks. Scan everything clearly.

Your institution may request extra items, such as a financial statement or parent details. Follow its checklist exactly. Mismatched names or dates can slow your application.

How to Apply for a Singapore Student’s Pass Through SOLAR+

Apply two to three months before your course starts. Log in with the reference your institution gives you, fill in your details, upload documents, and submit. ICA recommends applying before you travel to Singapore.

Pay the application fee within seven days of submitting, or the application can be withdrawn. Processing typically takes two to six weeks, and approval arrives as an IPA letter.

Singapore Student Visa Fees for Sri Lankan Students

Budget S45forthenon-refundableapplicationfee,paidonlineduringSOLAR+submission.Afterapproval,theissuancefeeisS60, paid when you complete formalities at ICA.

If your nationality needs a multiple-journey visa, add S$30. Medical exam costs are separate and vary by clinic. Fees change, so confirm current amounts on ICA’s website before paying.

What Is an IPA Letter for a Singapore Student’s Pass?

If approved, ICA sends an In-Principle Approval (IPA) letter listing your conditions. It’s valid for about two months and isn’t extended, so book flights within that window. It isn’t the pass itself.

Courses of six months or longer need a medical report on ICA’s form, including a chest X-ray and HIV test. Do it at an approved clinic as your IPA letter instructs.

How to Collect Your Singapore Student’s Pass After Arrival

After landing, complete your ICA formalities: bring your IPA letter, passport, medical report, and the issuance fee, and enrol your biometrics. Your school may give you an appointment date.

Passes are typically issued for one year or your course length, whichever is shorter. Your institution submits renewals, and the fees apply again.

Working While You Study

Students at MOM-approved institutions, including the autonomous universities, can work up to 16 hours a week during term and full-time during vacations, with no separate work pass.

Exchange students and private-college students aren’t covered. Compulsory internships tied to your course are allowed beyond 16 hours. Confirm your rights with your international office before accepting any job.

Can International Students Work in Singapore While Studying?

Your Student’s Pass ends with your studies. To stay and work, you’ll need an Employment Pass or S Pass sponsored by an employer, so start applying before you finish.

Tuition grants are usually tied to a three-year work bond, so read the terms before you accept one.
